The Joys of Autumn 2024 in Kyoto

Highlights of Autumn in Kyoto

The Jidai Matsuri

One of the Three Great Festivals of Kyoto

The Jidai Matsuri, known as one of the three major festivals of Kyoto (alongside the Aoi Matsuri and the Gion Matsuri), is held every year on October 22nd.

It is a citizen-participatory festival that reenacts customs and manners spanning from the Meiji Restoration period back to the Heian period. The highlight is the graceful historical procession of approximately 2,000 citizens.

After experiencing the Jidai Matsuri, which traces the history of Kyoto, consider staying in a traditional machiya that has witnessed the lifestyles of Kyoto's residents over the years...

Generally, autumn foliage becomes enjoyable when the morning low temperatures fall below around 8 to 9 degrees Celsius.

Last year (2023), the days when the minimum temperature fell below 10 degrees Celsius increased from November 12, and the autumn foliage in Kyoto could be enjoyed from mid-November to early December.

As the weather cools, the demand for reservations during the autumn foliage season increases significantly. There is a possibility that we might become fully booked, so we recommend making your reservation as soon as possible.
